Uniting American Families Act

NO CENSORSHIP - WHITMAN
Because of someone who's been part of my family for many years, and because it's just the right thing to do, I support the Uniting American Families Act.

The Uniting American Families Act (UAFA, H.R. 1024, S. 424) is a U.S. bill to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to eliminate discrimination in the immigration laws by permitting permanent partners of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents to obtain lawful permanent resident status in the same manner as spouses of citizens and lawful permanent residents and to penalize immigration fraud in connection with permanent partnerships.

The UAFA was introduced during the 111th Congress, to the United States House of Representatives on February 12, 2009 by New York Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY). There are currently 95 cosponsors of this bill in the United States House of Representatives. The UAFA was introduced in the United States Senate on February 12, 2009 by Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT). There are currently 17 cosponsors of this bill in the United States Senate.

OMFG, the government actually created something with the word "family" in it that isn't a code for "screw the crap out of a shitload of people who can't afford to defend themselves from it?" I don't believe it.

Yeah, I know. It sounds like voting against it would be like criticizing your grandma. I think the bill is a grand idea.
